Carpet Shrinkage

Carpet shrinkage is a possibility of which all necessary precautions should be taken into consideration. A carpet owner’s ambition is to invest in a perfectly complimentary piece to accentuate their living space, and to keep it clean, presentable, and unblemished. To keep your carpet looking presentable, there comes a time that you must look into a reliable company to follow through with the task and return your carpet as undamaged as it was upon arrival. Unfortunately, there are many cases that carpets have been returned damaged. From a professional standpoint, North York Carpet Cleaning has heard many of these horror stories from clients that have had bad experiences of undergoing carpet shrinkage upon receiving it back from their carpet cleaning service. When clients decide to take a second chance of faith with us, we start by explaining why things like carpet shrinking happen. We approach with this method to inform our clientele and to relieve stress and anger. Here are the questions we address.
Which carpet are prone to shrinkage?
Generally there are two types of carpets that fall victim to carpet shrinkage. The first types that we will discuss are Axminsters carpets. The genuine anatomy of an axminster carpet is assembled with a wool face fiber and a jute backing yarn that interlaces with the wool fiber. Although it’s quite difficult to encounter carpet shrinkage with an axminster carpet, the possibility can still present itself. If not approached with precaution, the possibility of shrinkage arises when the jute becomes wet. This occurs merely by a lack of provision from the cleaning company.
The second type of carpet we will discuss is the Belgian Wiltons. Most of these carpets are made of a polypropylene face fiber with a jute backing similar to an anminster, which we have just discussed. Carpet shrinkage is more common with the Belgian Wiltons because the polypropylene can barely retain any moisture. Since there is minimum retention, the water easily seeps through and travels to the backing, which causes the carpet to shrink.
Why do they shrink?
As simply put, these carpet shrinkage occurrences develop as result of poor cleaning. This is not necessarily to assume the workers are doing a poor job because a lack of motivation. We have to consider the possibilities that a poor job was done because a lack of the proper equipment or poor training was provided that doesn’t allow for the cleaners to know when a mistake is about to be made. Some cleaning companies don’t have the capital to acquire stronger cleaning machines. If the machine used is mediocre than there is a high possibility that it is too small to properly extract water out of the carpet. As for poor training done for manual cleaning, it could be as simple as applying too much pre-spray cleaning products which in result needs more water to extract the cleaning solutions. The main thing to remember is that the carpet cannot undergo too much water strain. This causes stress on the fabric, which causes it to shrink to avoid a collapse in the structure.
Proper research must be done of all possible companies you have in consideration. If you have a piece you would like to have cleaned that was initially a large investment for your home, it is important to give it to a cleaning company that can support it’s value and give it back to you unharmed. You know have the resources and knowledge to know what it takes to keep your carpet safe. You can ask cleaning company’s specific questions to see if they’re a right fit for the job or if they have the proper equipment to properly execute the task. Take a moment to find a reliable cleaning company and keep your carpet in proper form.
